Poor boy, today is the second day he's staying home. He's basically been out of commission since Saturday morning.

Friday night, he was blowing his nose excessively but tried to pass it off as allergies. When he woke up on Saturday, there was no ignoring the discomfort and congestion.

When the rum tasting got postponed last night (too few people and frankly Monday is not a good day), Patch said: oh good, now my girlfriend can stay home and take care of me. *Oy!* What a baby! I have to own up though and say that I completely understand the wanting to be taken care of when ill. I can only hope he'll do the same for me.

I made him tea last night that consisted of roughly, one spoonful Pennyroyal (fever), one bag Red Clover (expectorant), one spoonful Chamomile (generally soothing), three hibiscus flowers (vitamin C) and half a squirt of St. John's Wort (expectorant) per cup. He said it was a little bitter, so I added honey. My guess is that the Red Clover and St. John's Wort were what contributed to that.

Anyone thinking of trying this at home, please remember certain herbs can interact with medications (birth control, antibiotics and anti-depressants being high on that list). Also, Pennyroyal is an abortative, so ladies who are pregnant or lactating should not use it (and a word to the wise, if you are on your period or near it, it can enhance the bleeding as it is a causes dialation of the uterine blood vessels).

Interstingly enough, he seemed to feel better after I made him drink a whole pot of the stuff over the course of the evening. I kept offering to make him tea over the weekend and he kept resisting. So I found it pretty funny last night that he wanted me to take care of him. When I asked how, he shrugged. When I offered tea, he didn't really respond, so I made an executive decision and made him tea. *grumble* Of course, this morning, after calling in sick to work, he asks me to prep the tea for him so he can just ad hot water when he gets up. :-)

For my part, I show no sign of illness. I'm keeping up with my garlic, vitamin C and echinacea, so we'll see.
