I'm in my cubie and I hear a voice in the kitchen saying, "They should abolish Federal Income Tax. There's your stimulous right there."

I really want to get up and go ask him how he expects the government to continue to function without that money, but then again, there's no having a conversation with stupid. I just wish he'd shut-up so I didn't have to listen.

The problem is that many people, even many economists, have what they believe are well-reasoned and intelligent arguments as to how the Federal Income Tax can and should be eliminated. They also tend to be the kinds of people who believe that poor people deserve to be poor, rich people deserve to be rich, and social services should be provided by the free market. Personally, I'd like to see what those very same people would think if suddenly the government could provide nothing to anyone and all the hated "social services" that they themselves depend on become scarcer than hen's teeth. I can just see them all saying "Wait a minute! You mean small government is making MY life harder?!? What the fuck?!?"

I like my interstates and (essentially interstate here in CA) water supply/treatment systems...

But then, I'm a Civil Engineer by training, so I get how important those "invisible" services are.

I want the entire US tax code abolished and the IRS to be completely revamped!
But we still need an income tax to run the necessary government bits, so I'd like the Federal Income Tax replaced with a more-equitable flat tax of some type [preferable to a graduated system, I think, for simplicity and less chance of abuses]. DO without exemptions which cause complications and abuse. Our current tax code is an accreted, convoluted abomination which should have been simplified decades ago.
