The North Dakota House just passed a measure declaring that "any organism with the genome of homo sapiens" is a person protected by rights granted by the North Dakota Constitution and state laws. Read about it here.Of course this is the same state that passed a constitutional gay marraige ban in 2004.
I wonder if chicken embryo with part of the human genes spliced into it would be protected? Maybe someone should try.

As for protection, E. coli and yeast are spliced with human genes to make insulin.
Think of the quadrillions and quadrillions of E. coli killed just so diabetics can live. It's just like killing babies so Christopher Reeve could walk.
