I've been thinking about how people are talking about leaving. I've even expressed that I could have a good midwifery career in New Zealand. But really, for me it' just talk. It's venting.

Listen up, and listen up good. I ain't going nowhere. You know why? Because I was not raised to cut and run. I was raised to stand up for what is right. Leaving is not standing up. It's cowardly.

Despite the disapointment. And the feeling that many people in this country are not paying attention. I'm not giving up on them. I'm not giving up on myself. I have faith in humanity.

It may take a serious erosion of their rights before they actually notice. They will probably continue to buy the pablum they are fed by the press. But when they are ready, I'm going to be a part of the infrastructure that is already in place and working for change. I will happily scoot over and make room in the halls of reform.

I would rather end up a political prisoner or knee deep in blood than leave the country of my heart.

DON'T TREAD ON ME.

i love how we think that being outspoken and courageous will make us unpopular.

I think it's the people that are leaving that are about to become unpopular. I believe that a great many of us want to do what we can to promote positive change in our country. These are terrifying times, no doubt, but this is the only place from which we can make any difference.

PS - I don't know about that knee-deep in blood thing, though. I'm all for getting politically involved, but if it comes down to physically fighting, I'm not sure I have what it takes.

I couldn't agree with you more. You very clearly articulated what I've had rolling around in my head since last night.

Well, we could definitely do with some more midwives here in New Zealand - and you're guaranteed a spare room to stay in until you find your feet :)
