I decided against taking the westbound bus, because it turned out not to be an MTA bus. And, since the whole point of this excercise is to use the monthly pass I bought...

So I took the same eastbound bus as yesterday, only earlier. I was out of my house around 7:35 to catch the 7:43 bus. I got off the bus, a much closer two stops later to take a different north/south bus than yesterday. I actually felt pretty stupid taking the bus such a short distance. I'm going to review some walking routes that will take me directly to the north/south bus.

The second bus, like yesterday, was more crowded. However, when we stopped a the high school it opened up significantly. Of course, by the time we got to the train station, it was full again.

This was definitely a shorter bus ride than yesterday. The only issue I have with it is the time-table. There is no reason I should arrive at work at 8:15am, not when I start at 9am. I need to review the schedule and see how much later the later bus makes me.

No really, I speak of herbs and not the green stuff that people are known to smoke.

I've been reading "Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West" by Michael Moore (1979 Museum of New Mexico Pres - ISBN: 0-89013-104-x), on my commute. It's increadibly informative and the whole reason I bought it is because it discusses the plant life that can be found right outside my door (more or less). Most herb books are increadibly general and tend to discuss European herbs, or they focus primarily on the East and the Great Plains. [Side note: I must pick up a field guide to California plants. While his descriptions are detailed and there are pictures, I've forgotten more on plant biology than I remember.]

I made a marvelous discovery this morning. My grandmother used to give me wormwood tea for my cramps. It grew in her garden, smelled awful and tasted worse. I can still feel the flavor in the back of my throat if I think about it too hard.

I've tried to research the plant before, but never got beyond corelating a Latin name to the Spanish name. My mom and I both knew that my grandmother called the plant "estafiate", and i was able to find out one day that it's Latin name is Artemesia Frigida, but I had never pursued beyond that.

This morning, I was reading the entry on Wormwood and everything finally clicked. He talked about how the hot tea could help with cramps and in a later section said something specifically about "estafiate". It's amazing how knowledgable and stupid I feel at the same time. I feel like the moment I knew it was Artemesia anything, I should have automatically known it was Wormwood. But now I know, and I can make the world's nastiest tea when I'm crampy. Although frankly, I'll probably cut it with mint or something else palatable, and oh yeah, lots of honey, lots and lots of honey, 'cause *shudder* that stuff is awful *ick*.

Also of note: Sagebrush is a sub-species of Wormwood and has the same medicinal qualities.

Brain fry... review the following 25 contracts and give me A, B, & C on each. Not hard at all, but seriously focus requiring.

Well, maybe not. I let [livejournal.com profile] vincentroland taste my fried chicken and my root beer and play with seige weapons! I encouraged the substitution of food for tears and laughed myself silly while he tried to communicate with the cat.

V walked over to where Loaf was lounging on the couch, thumping his tail and started thumping the couch (right next to Loaf's tail) with his hand. The he crowed and laughed and did his "I'm cute, pay attention to me!" thing that works so well with us humans. I told him at that point that the cat wasn't buying it, but he tried some more. Sure enough, Loaf ignored him. V being a smart boy toddled off to look at something else.

I find it funny that D'Argtagon hid away the whole time. Loaf meanwhile paraded around, two steps ahead of the boy, or a step behind him (eating his graham cracker crumbs).

Once again, Patch proved entertaining to V, mostly by tickling me so I squeeled. But pretty much anytime Patch moved or made any noise, V focused all his attention on Patch. He wanted to know what Patch was up to. However, when I tried to sit near Patch while holding [livejournal.com profile] vincentroland, he would have none of it (then again, neither would Patch).

I also find it amazing how easily amused he is (oooo! it makes noise!) and yet, how persistant he can be (I want what is in *your* cup). I really had a good time tonight. I hope he did as well.
