I took the bus in this morning. Actually two buses.
I left the house at abour 7:45 and as I was crossing the street to the bus stop, the bus showed up. (Technically I was planning on catching the 8:11, but the 7:4? would do fine.) I find it funny that a bus driver can recognize that slightly worried, "I need this light so I can catch the bus" look from a block away. I figured he'd most likely drive right past me, but no, he stopped and let me run accross the street.
The first bus was mostly empty. And I discovered one of the joys of the new MTA, the bus announces the upcoming stops. "Now approaching Victory & Lankershim". *woot* I didn't have to try to read street signs or be paranoid about missing my stop.(Something I always do, the first time I take a new bus route.)
The second bus, I had to wait for for a while. I suspect that I had just missed one. However, not a big deal, as I was actually early and the bus that came was the one I was originally scheduled to take. (The 8:20 or something like that.) This one was much more what I've come to expect from public transportation - hopelessly crowded and smelling of the unwashed masses. Well, actually it smelled of the man next to me who was holding on to the railing above his head with both hands. (I'm still not sure if it was a blessing that I was taller than him, or if that just meant all the scent wafted up to me.) Once I was able to move towards the back of the bus, I was treated to various perfumes/colognes. Luckily nothing was terribly overbearing or rancid and the bus' air system actually was quite helpful. I also noticed that this bus had an elevated back half. (I think the alt. fuel motor was under the seats in the back. The benefit of that was a tall ceiling, which meant that despite the crowd, there was no sense of clausterphobia.
We arrived at the train station at about 8:25. Which meant that when I got downstairs, there was a train waiting and I actually got to work 10 minutes earlier than usual, because I caught the earlier train. We'll see what happens tommorrow, when I catch the eastbound bus.
